Twenty persons have lost their lives in two-wheeler accidents across the city in the last three weeks. In most of the
cases the victims were not wearing helmets.
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Manoj Patil said, “In up to 98% cases the victims were not wearing helmets. The death rate is high among men and most of the victims are in the age group of 18-40. Rash driving and driving under the influence of alcohol are also some of the reasons for the accidents.”
Besides, there were cases in which the pillion rider received serious head injuries as the pillion either jerks upward or falls directly on his head. In most of the cases, the deaths occurred due to head injuries and internal bleeding.
According to traffic branch statistics, the second week and third week of December recorded the maximum number of mishaps and one person lost his life in a two-wheeler accident every day in the last three weeks.
