The busy collector’s office wore a deserted look on Thursday because of the one-day strike of revenue staff. More than 3,500 class III and IV revenue staff in the districts of Pune,
Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur participated in the strike, which was called by the Pune district revenue staff union.
The strike was called to protest against the delay of two years in promotion of 204 staff to the post of naib tehshildar. Lakshmikant Pacharne, president of the union said, “The file for promotion has traveled more than seven times from the office of the divisional commissioner to Mantralaya. Every time, the government sends back the file with a new query.’’
In the absence of staff, work at the collector’s office had come to a standstill, with many returning disappointed.
