Residents planned series of activities linked with Gudi Padwa to mark Earth Hour

Millions of people around the world switched off their lights for Earth Hour. This year March 29, was marked as Earth Hour, and Thanekars planned a small initiative to contribute to it.
Shakar Deewan, a resident from Vijay Vilas informs, "This year Earth Hour was on March 29 and we are celebrating Gudi Padwa on 31st march. Trying to convince every resident to switch off their electronic equipment is difficult. Hence, in order to make them do so, we have invited kids along with their parents, to participate in a drawing competition for Gudi Padwa, in the area which has been assigned where everyone will be there during the Earth Hour."
We organised Rangoli making workshop for the kids and as well for parents for Gudi Padwa. This engaged everyone, as people were not at home and did not use their gadgets," says Mukteswar Meher from Siddheswar society."
Individuals also took efforts and there were few youngsters who had planned to say no to mobile phones for four hours on Earth Day. Residents from Vasant Vihar had lined up activities where kids planted saplings to spread greenery and everyone cleaned up their garden area. These activities were planned both for Earth Day and also for a prosperous beginning of the New Year.
The societies like Prestige Garden and Sukur, also planted tress combined with other activities. In order to gather all the residents below and engage them in the activity, the residents from Swastik Park organised Shobha Yatra in morning and in evening. They asked the people to participate in the yatra and save energy.
Many corporate exhibitions have also been planned for the day and Godrej group in Mulund also arranged a corporate exhibition on the 29th, where the residents from the nearby areas were invited and products for Gudi Padwa were exhibited for the convenience of people. Residents have also been instructed to switch off all equipments while leaving from home and contribute in saving energy.
People have taken efforts to save energy at least for a day and interestingly various activities were planned by housing societies to mark this day.
