dna asks Westcoast residents on their views on World Peace Day (September 21, 2013).
Just like every other day!
I would celebrate World Peace Day probably like World Cancer Day or World Environment Day. While they are symbolic of a certain cause, and are celebrated or marked in calendars of affected people and parties, I really fail to understand what is so special about this day. World Peace Day is celebrated on September 21, if I am not wrong.
However, does that mean that on September 21, no bombs will go off in Baghdad or Pakistan, or will South and North Korea sign a peace treaty? It is just not easy to find relevance in a particular day, when people across the world do not consider world peace as a priority. I may sound like a cynic, but then that is the reality. We need the world to be a peaceful place, everyday. We do not need a special day to celebrate world peace.
—Gautam Seth, Vile Parle
It is very relevant as of now
World Peace Day is very relevant, at least right now when countries are up in arms against each other. This World Peace Day I hope that countries come together and pledge to maintain peace and harmony in their country and the neighbouring countries as well.
The theme is also very apt. It is through education that we can achieve peace and children need to be educated about the importance of peace, early in life so that they learn to respect it and strive to work towards it. We need peace, not just for each one of us but also for each other. So that everyone goes to sleep with a peaceful mind everyday. Happy World Peace Day to everyone.

Do something relevant on the day
I think it is a great decision to celebrate World Peace Day with the theme of education on peace. However, in my opinion, I think it is important for countries all over to come together and do something relevant on the day. It is a brilliant occasion for countries to do something that will contribute to world peace.
Can countries stop bombing each other’s territories even for a day? Can countries come together and sign a treaty on world peace on that day? This day is very important, rather than just celebrating it like every other day, we need to come together as responsible citizens and do something for the cause of world peace. That will make the day extremely relevant.

Inner peace is most important
To be honest, I did not remember that World Peace Day is on September 21. Though I do remember the days when riots and other disasters happened across the world. That throws light on the relevance of the day. I wonder why do we need a day to celebrate world peace?
Let us make every day World Peace Day and celebrate world peace! Let us come together and pledge to end the terror that has spread across the world. In my opinion, peace is very rare nowadays; everywhere, in some country or the other, there are wars, terror attacks, and tension among people and communities.
We should start by finding the inner peace within ourselves.Once we find that inner peace, we can strive to work towards a peaceful nation and a peaceful world. It is important to find inner peace for your own self development.

Work towards world peace
While I will not be celebrating the day, I think it is a great initiative. The day will give people and countries a chance to sit up and think about world peace. While as a nation, we are advancing, we terribly need to put our heads together and think of the things we can do for world peace.
World peace cannot be achieved without all of us coming together and working towards it. Let us all pledge to work towards world peace and let us make the world a better place to live in. Happy International Peace Day!
