The Maharashtra Election Commission had raised certain questions with regard to his appointment such as why the state commission was not intimated about his selection as the Mumbai police chief.

It had also asked why Maria was not posted outside Mumbai even after completing 3 years in the city, and why he was made the city police chief even though he was a Mumbai resident.

The state government had then sought permission from the EC which replied on this matter on March 21 and said they have no objection on Maria's appointment as Mumbai CP.
