Rajasthan CM to do bhoomipujan of state bhavan in Vashi today

After Assam, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha, it is the turn of Rajasthan to get its bhavan in the satellite city. The bhoomipujan of the second phase of the bhavan will be performed by Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot in the presence of Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday.

While the first phase of the bhavan is almost complete, the second phase will commence post the bhoomipujan function. “In the first phase, we constructed chief minister’s suite, 20 VIP rooms, guest rooms and an administrative office. In the second phase, we will construct 20-bed and 40-bed dormitories that will be given on rent at reasonable rates to students from Rajasthan who come to Mumbai or Navi Mumbai to pursue further education,” an official from the Rajasthan government said.

He added that this is being done to ensure that all possible help is extended to the people from the state of Rajasthan as well as those who stay in Maharashtra.

After the then Rajasthan chief minister, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, came up with an idea to construct state bhavan at Vashi, the officials approached City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) that allotted a plot admeasuring 5,405 sq metre at a  cost of Rs1.35 crore at sector 30A in Vashi on February 20, 1993.

The project got stuck due to technical reasons, but the current chief minister, convinced about the importance of having a state bhavan in satellite city gave his green signal for the project in February 2010. He also released a sum of Rs12.83 crore for construction of the first phase.

“Thereafter, the project work got the much-needed boost. Now the state government is ready to perform bhoomipujan for the phase II work which is likely to be completed within two years,” the official concluded.
