MUMBAI: The Special MCOCA court at Mazgaon on Thursday rejected the bail application of Sujata Nikhalje, wife of Chhota Rajan. Judge Abhay Thipsay also rejected the bail plea of Prakash Nikhalje, Rajan’s younger brother.

Sujata and Prakash were arrested by the Crime Branch Unit-VI in December 2005 in connection with an extortion case registered by a Chembur-based builder.

While rejecting the bail applications of Sujata and Prakash, the court noted that even though Rajan was out of India, his illegal activities were still continuing on Indian soil.

The court said in its order that the Crime Branch had enough evidence against Sujata indicating her role in the organised crime syndicate. The Crime Branch even had transcripts of a telephone conversation between Sujata and Rajan, in which they were discussing about a property deal.

Sujata and Prakash approached the special MCOCA court for their bail after the crime branch filed the chargesheet against them. Apart from Sujata and Prakash the crime branch arrested four more people.

The Crime Branch said Sujata had received half of the Rs10 lakh extortion amount.
