“Raj Thackeray has to apologise to the entire education community…” said a senior academician from Mumbai at Sanjeevani International School on Saturday evening. In continuation of the support the DAV school management has received since the MNS attack, Mumbai-based school principals, counselors, teachers, parents and ex-students met up to determine the future course of action to safeguard the sanctity of educational institutions. Accordingly, a charter has been formed and the fraternity is gearing to seek legal advice to formulate it into the legislation.

The charter seeks non-interference by unauthorised persons in the affairs of schools, and demands that no pressure be put on schools at time of admissions. Only government authorities and agencies are to be allowed to inspect schools, and hindrance caused by any individual or group to the safety and well-being of the schools is to be made a non-bailable offence. “This incident is a blessing in disguise for us to rise and come together to ensure that never again an institute or its head is humiliated or subjected to any form of harassment,” said Father Joseph Abraham, principal of St Mary’s Multipurpose.

The meeting was also intended to serve as a platform for academicians to express their opinions about political interference with school management. “The noblest of profession is under threat and it has to be safeguarded,” said Vrinda Malse, principal of Sanjeevani School.
