The Indian Railways has asked all catering stall owners to ensure that they keep sufficient baby food and other food products during Ganpati, so that passengers travelling on the Mumbai-Sawantwadi route to go home for the festivities have little to complain about. Extra trains are also being run on the Mumbai-Goa route.

The authorities have asked the stall owners to ensure that they are well stocked. They have been permitted to operate extra tables and mobile trolleys to cater the needs of travelling passengers.

"All catering establishments are instructed to keep sufficient baby food, Janata Khana and drinking water at their stalls," said LK Verma, chief PRO, Konkan Railways.

Extra booking windows have been opened at eight stations of Ratnagiri to clear the rush.

The MSRTC is also operating over 2,000 buses to the Konkan in the past three days. These depart from Kalachowki, Worli, Kurla, Parel, Bhandup, Borivali, Lalbaug and other areas of the city, causing heavy traffic snarls in the city and on Sion-Panvel and Mumbai-Goa highways.
