Railway officials said the incident occurred when the Kalyan-CST local was stationary at Mumbra. “The guard, Mayur Dabhade, apparently got into an argument with three men, who got angry and hit him with cricket stumps,” said a CR official. This comes on the heels of another case where a guard was beaten up on board a local train at Bandra station.

Dabhade informed the motormen about the incident, who, in turn, apprised the station master. Subsequently, the guard was sent to the Civil Hospital in Thane, and then to the Kalyan railway hospital, where a fracture was detected in his right hand.

CR spokesperson AK Singh said, “The guard was provided with all the necessary medical treatment at Kalyan hospital. The reason for the attack remains unclear, but we have booked a man between 20-25 years old in the case.”
