"The Vasai-Virar-Panvel project's Railway Board note and Cabinet note are under consideration. It will take around 15 days to get the go-ahead. It will be difficult to get the project approved by the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs," said a senior railway official on condition of anonymity.
The corridor, a new suburban one, was approved by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog on September 5. The approval from the Extended Board of the Railways (EBR) came on September 29.

Officials said there are chances that the CST-Panvel and Virar-Bandra elevated corridors might also be announced during the PM's visit. However, both projects have not been cleared by NITI Aayog yet. "The Virar-Bandra elevated corridor is currently under Public-Private Partnership (PPP). There is a lot of work on it in terms of state support agreement," said the official.
