On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, January 30, Monday, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will face a trial at the Bhiwandi court for his alleged remarks that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) people killed Mahatma Gandhi. While campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi at a public rally in Bhiwandi allegedly said that it was the RSS people who shot dead Mahatma Gandhi.Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on November 16 by the Bhiwandi court in connection with the case filed by an RSS functionary. It was on personal surety by former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil that the court accepted the bail plea.A RSS functionary in Gujarat, Rajesh Kunte, had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi in Bhiwandi court. The complainant's counsel told the court that Kunte was ready to withdraw his case if Rahul accepts his mistake and submits an undertaking that he would not repeat such a mistake again. Neither Rahul nor his lawyer responded to this and the matter has come up for next hearing scheduled on Monday. The court has asked to treat Rahul Gandhi like an ordinary citizen.
