The R N Podar School hosted its first inter-school Model United Nation's (MUN) conference – the Podar Summit – at Ramada conventional centre in Powai on Friday. The three-day event was inaugurated by principal of the Santa Cruz-based school, Avnita Bir. The Podar Summit will see five committees discussing various global issues.

Following the style of an MUN debate, as many as 321 students from various schools from Class IX-XII engaged in talks related to topics accorded to them. Participants who attended the meets represented different countries in the summit. From Mumbai, Mithibai college, HR College, Cathedral and John Connon School and Bombay Scottish participated in the event.

Principal Bir said, "Such summits provide life lessons to students as they organise the event. The entire responsibility of conceptualisation and design is upon them. They get exposed to issues of international relevance. Last year, we had legal a committee in the summit. This year, we have added an Indian parliament-style debate."

Saral Choudhary, an RN Podar student, said, "One gets to learn a lot at the summit. The experienced students get to attend meets such as Crisis Cabinet and United Nations Security Council, where serious topics are discussed."

Echoing Choudhary sentiments, Astha Munjal, another student, said, "When I was in Class IX, I participated in the summit as a delegate. This is my second time and I am in the organising committee, where my role is different. I think this experience has helped me in my writing, speaking and deliberation skills. I am able to put forth my points in a better manner."
