Santosh Mane, the state transport (ST) bus driver who hijacked a ST bus from Swargate bus depot and mowed down eight people and damaged around 40 vehicles in the morning hours of Wednesday, has been remanded in eight days’ police custody.

Mane was arrested and a murder case was filed against him after the gruesome bloodshed on Wednesday.

Produced before a magistrate for remand hearing on Thursday, Mane looked calm and did not respond to any of the questions asked by the court. Government pleader Ujwala Pawar informed the court that the police were yet to ascertain Mane’s motives and sought his police custody for 14 days.

She alleged that Mane was not cooperating with the police. Pointing out towards the seriousness of the incident, she requested the court to remand him in maximum police custody. With the Pune Bar Association appealing to all its members to not take up the Mane case, no lawyer is yet to represent the driver.
