“It started a bit late, but it will pick up,” said one of the officials of the Western India Bookies Association, who didn’t wish to be named.

For the civic polls in Mumbai, the Congress and their allies, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), are the favourites, while the BJP and the Shiv Sena are behind in the market. “The Congress and their allies NCP are favourites and are placed at Rs0.60, while the BJP and the Shiv Sena are at Rs1.50,” said Lal. The bookies do agree that it has been a late call, but hope that in another week, it could rise. “We agree that this was not the scenario in the last municipal elections maybe because of many scams. But, it will rise in days to come.”

Pune has been on the lower side this year and the Congress are not the favourites as many of the punters are gunning for NCP candidates. “The Commonwealth Games scam has been the main reason for the Congress’ setback. But, anything could happen as money plays a vital role,” said the official.

The satta market is also busy with the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and other states up north. “Over Rs10,000 crore to mention the least, have exchanged hands,” he said.
