Pune NGO set to shape little lives; so can you

In a bid to revive hope among families of farmers who committed suicide in Yavatmal region, Pune-based NGO, the late Shankarrao Bhoi Smruti Pratishthan, has launched a unique project, Punyajagar, aimed at rehabilitation of such families.

Under the project, children from those families will get an opportunity to stay in Pune for three days. 

Bhoi Pratishthan on Thursday brought 25 children from remote areas of Yavatmal region to stay with 25 different families in Pune. 
Many NGOs and Ganesh mandals have chipped in for the project and helped to identify families that are willing to adopt these children for three days. 

Bhoi Pratishthan president, Milind Bhoi, and publicity in-charge for the foundation, Ashish Jarad, said those children had never visited even a taluka as they came from remote areas of Yavatmal district. “The foundation will organise various activities to help these children build their future in cooperation with Deendayal Shetkari Vikas Prakalp, an initiative in Yavatmal district,” Jarad added. 

Bhoi said that as per government figures the number of farmers’ suicide in Yavatmal were 2,200.  He said that the unofficial figure was much higher as many nomadic tribes including Laman, Paradhi and Bhilla were not included as farmers as it was not their occupation. 

Bhoi said that after three days, those children would be given a send-off by organising a get-together at Bharatmata Abhyasika in the foothills of Parvati on December 19 at 11 am. He appealed to the citizens to come forward and participate in the project.
