The decision follows efforts by the National Society for Clean Cities (NSCC) to persuade the civic body officials to take steps in the matter. The NSCC is the apex body of mohalla committees in Pune.

A recent meeting of the NSCC sanitation committee was attended by PMC’s deputy commissioner (sewage and water treatment), Suresh Jagtap. Members of various mohalla committees were present, along with NSCC president, Satish Khot, and PMC ward officers.

Jagtap stressed on the ‘Triple P’ programme: ‘publicity’, at least once every two weeks, on garbage segregation and the consequences of not following it, timing of collection and contact numbers for reporting defaulters; ‘penalise’ those who are bent on making the city dirty; and ‘picking up’ of garbage efficiently by the PMC.
