Rajpal said on Monday that the mayor has the right, as per the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act, 1949, to dismiss from membership elected members who show unruly behaviour.

He said he would move the proposal to remove from membership of the PMC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena members, Vikas Mathkari, Sham Deshpande, Sanjay Bhosale, Vijay Deshmukh, Mukta Tilak, Leena Pansare, Sunita Chintal and others for damaging public property.

He said this was the first shameful attack of its kind in the history of the PMC. NCP spokesperson, Ankush Kakade said the Sena-BJP’s aggression can be viewed in the context of the forthcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) polls.

BJP member Vikas Mathkari said the ruling parties are indulging in caste politics. Shiv Sena leader Sham Deshpande said the Supreme Court had ordered removal of the Subhanshah Dargah 20 years ago, but the civic administration had done nothing.
