State Transport Minister Divakar Raote said that now since the final order had come from the Central Government, the State Government would issue a gazette notification stating the changed name on Monday.

"It's a big win for us as I have been following this issue up personally for the past 26 years. We will have a proper ceremony and will seek the time of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, and we hope that within a week or 10 days we will manage to complete all the remaining formalities," said Raote.

In fact, it was Sena who put forth the demand to change the name given to the station in honour of John Elphinstone who served as the Governor of Bombay from 1853 to 1860. The new name Prabhadevi comes from the temple by the same name located nearby which dates back to almost 300 years ago.

The name-change proposal was passed on December 16, 2016, at the winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly in Nagpur.
