A professor of Wilson College has complained against the South Mumbai-based institution for violating Maharashtra state board norms by allowing the shooting of an ad film in its premises while students were appearing for their HSC board exams on Saturday. However, college authorities denied the allegation and claimed that the shooting had been shifted to Mackichan Hall of the boys' hostel in the morning.

The college was in a similar tangle last year when it allowed the shooting of a film starring Akshay Kumar on its campus during the Std 12 board exams.

The professor alleged that the college often rents out its premises for either film or advertisement shooting. The land on which the college stands belongs to the collector's office, and has been taken on lease.

The college's principal, V J Sirwaya, said, "Four months ago, we had asked permission from the collector's office for shooting in our premises. We even paid Rs 1.25 lakh to the office. Later, we had to cancel the shooting, but we did not collect the money. We went to ask for permission again on February 13 for two days' shooting (Saturday and Sunday morning), for which the collector's office asked us for another Rs 75,000. Today (Saturday) morning , officials from the office came and denied us permission. Hence, we had to shift the shooting to Mackichan Hall of the boys' hostel which does not come under the collector's office land."

S Y Chandekar, secretary of the Mumbai divisional board, said, "We did receive a complaint of shooting happening in Wilson College. But when we sent officials to inspect, it was not on."
