A few days ago, Professor Bharat Gite of LS. Raheja School of Art made headlines with his suicide attempt in front of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray's residence in order to save the Art department which he alleged the management wants to close down. However, the principal of the college Radha Ambekar has a different story to tell. She alleged that Gite has misled people with his suicide attempt in order to save himself from two legal offences.

Ambekar said, "Gite charged with two legal offences in college. One he recorded the discussion on college results which was confidential without my consent and complained against me to the Director of Art. For this management issued memo to six professors including Gite for that act. Second, he threatened me and pressurised me to give No Objection Certificate to one of the college professors and allow him to go abroad for personal work. He also brought students to put pressure on me to issue that NOC. He created ruckus inside college premises on same for which I had to complain to the local police. Hence to divert authorities and everyone's mind he made the suicide attempt scene."

According to Ambekar, the management has written to the government to allow them to start unaided college and shift the aid of this college to some other institution. This will shift the department to some other institution in the city, as a result, the professors have to shift too. After coming to know about this Gite started the scene, allege principal.

After his suicide attempt, Gite was admitted to Hinduja hospital and was discharged on Friday.

Gite said, "Two first-year applied art students were promoted by the principal even though they were not eligible to pass. This was done in order to close down that division. When six professors complained against this act, principal stopped a NOC of one of the professors who wished to go abroad for further studies and was one of the complainants against the principal. Whatever I did on Wednesday was to save my college from shutting down."
