Pride for all: This year's Pride Parade month to celebrate repeal of Section 377

India's first LGBT+ choir will be singing at Mahalaxmi, on January 27. The event that will be held during the Pride Parade month is special since the theme this year is "Pride for All." The Supreme Court struck down Section 377 in September, thereby holding up that sex between consulting adults of the same gender is not a crime. The choir will be singing songs tailored around the theme and the concert has been aptly named "Aazaadiyan". The choir is called "Rainbow Voices Mumbai."

"In its third annual Pride Concert, Rainbow Voices Mumbai (RVM) — India's first LGBT+ choir — will be singing an array of English, Hindi and regional songs tailored around this year's Pride theme, 'Pride For All'," Ashish Pandya, one of the core members leading the choir said.

The plural in Aazaadiyan, means many freedoms, which is the driving force behind the ethos of inclusivity and plurality that the group advocates. Celebrating the repeal of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, this concert aims to recognise the importance of this historic judgment for the queer community. It intends to extend the goodwill behind the law to other marginalised groups.

"Like our previous Pride concerts, this year too our International chorister friends shall join along with us to sing along," said Pandya.

Aazaadiyan will also feature the India release of Rainbow Voices Mumbai's first international music album; a collaboration with project Rainbow Riots by Swedish music producer, Petter Wallenberg.

"We expect people to come and join us for this exceptional evening and tap along to some great music, good vibes and much more," said Pandya. The event will be held on January 27, at G5A foundation in Mahalaxmi, The pride is scheduled to happen on February 2.
