In what may affect a lot of homebuyers in the city who were planning to buy their dream house in Mumbai for an affordable rate, MHADA President Uday Samant has confirmed that prices of homes put in this year's lottery won't be reduced. This may dash some dreams, including that of the chairman of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) Mumbai Board, Madhu Chavan, who had written a letter to the vice president of MHADA asking to reconsider the rates.

Meanwhile, the three most expensive homes priced between Rs 5.80 crore to Rs 4.99 crore have received 79 applications till now. MHADA's Mumbai board has put 1,384 homes in the lottery to be held on December 16.

The letter by Chavan had mentioned that after the prices of the houses in various categories, including the economically weaker section, lower-income group, middle-income group and the higher-income group were declared. MHADA had received a lot of criticism and many people had expressed their dissatisfaction over the prices of the homes. His letter further read, "We, in comparison of previous years, have reduced the prices of the homes, and the decision of reducing the prices of the homes was a unanimous decision. However, taking into consideration the dissatisfaction expressed by the public we need to rethink on the prices of the homes. As the lottery application is in the process, we can still think about it."

However, on Friday when the question of whether the prices of homes will be reduced in the forthcoming lottery will be reduced or not was asked to Samant, he said, "The issue will be discussed in the authority meeting, the proposal by Chavan is a legitimate one, and if rates are reduced it will be implemented in the future lottery, not this one scheduled to be held on December 16."

Apart from this, the three expensive homes that are located in Cumbala hill, has also got a good response. The home priced at Rs 5.80 crore has till now received 26 application, the one priced at Rs 5.13 crore has received 28 applications, while the one priced at Rs 4.99 crore has received 25 applications. This Samant says is an answer to all those people who doubted that the expensive homes won't receive much of a traction.

Meanwhile, MHADA also released a helpline number for common people to report anyone who claims that they can get them a home in the lottery.
