The Malwani police finally managed to nab Sonawane’s husband in Malad (West) after chasing him across Badlapur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Thane and Panvel.

Sonawane lived with her husband Sunil, 31, in MHB Colony near Bharatmata School in Malwani. Sunil is an alcoholic and would take money from his wife to feed his addiction.

“On November 9, Sunil demanded money from his wife but she refused. In a fit of rage, he began beating her up, poured a gallon of kerosene over her and set her on fire,” said senior police inspector, Abdul Rauf Sheikh.

“Sonawane was admitted to Bhagwati hospital with 90% burns so there were no hope. But she battled for her life for a week,” said Sheikh.

“We were able to trace Sunil’s movements as he fled to several places in Maharashtra and finally returned to Mumbai. Our team reached the Panvel area and in co-ordination with the Mumbai team, we managed to nab him in Malad,” added Sheikh.
