Powai woman told to surrender for singeing minor maid

The Powai resident, who on November 20 singed a 13-year-old girl, has been asked to surrender before the police by December 20.

Accused Madhurima Manocha made the girl work as maid at her residence and fled her Powai house after a case was registered.

When the police started looking for Madhurima, she sought an anticipatory bail and the sessions court granted an interim bail, after which the police filed an appeal with the Bombay high court seeking her arrest.

Senior police inspector Ashok Jadhav from Powai police station said, “The court cancelled her bail and has asked her to surrender before the police by December 20. Her lawyer appealed to the court that she would surrender in the court. We again appealed that she should surrender before that and accordingly the court has asked her to surrender by Thursday or Friday.”

Madhurima is married to a senior executive from a leading financial firm in the city. She had singed victim Rama Thakur with a hot iron and had assaulted her. Thakur, a native of Bhopal, which is also Manocha’s maternal place, was brought to the city by the accused.

Madhurima had promised Thakur’s parents that she would get the girl admitted to a school but instead she made her work as a maid. On November 20, Thakur had ironed clothes after which she left the iron on the table. It was then that Manocha’s three-year-old daughter accidentally touched the hot iron and was hurt. This infuriated Manocha, who then singed Thakur with the same iron and also assaulted her.

Thakur was made to leave the house and she was found crying by a few residents, who took her to the police and a complaint was registered against Manocha.
