The urgent pothole and road repairs ordered by guardian minister Eknath Shinde and undertaken by the KDMC this weekend are a hogwash, claim Kalyan activists. They say that these repairs are to make people believe that the authorities are trying to address the pothole issue. But will lead to more accidents if not done properly.

Five deaths due to potholes in a month compelled the Kalyan Dombivli municipal corporation (KDMC) to pull up their socks. KDMC commissioner Govind Bodke canceled staff leave last weekend and ordered to fill up the potholes and uneven roads immediately. This was after PWD minister Eknath Shinde took an urgent meeting on July 14 and ordered immediate repairs. He asked them to use top quality paver blocks and RMC for the same.

"All this is a drama and they are showing that the state is working for the people," says an activist and a resident Yogesh Dalvi from Kalyan.
