Thane police suspect an insider played a major role to provide crucial information of the company's routine affairs. The robbers were well aware that the collection of jewellery is huge by the month's end which is later transferred to the regional office for safekeeping.Moreover, according to the police, in order to avoid suspicion and have ample of time to settle down with the booty, the thieves chose Sunday to break into the branch as the office remains shut."An insider could have passed on the information to the thieves about the huge quantity of the gold being kept during the month end", said a police officer."We are questioning few employees in this regard and are trying to locate a building watchman who left a few days before the theft," said the officer.A Thane crime branch officer said, "We suspect that they started drilling in the wall on Saturday night which went on till the wee hours of Sunday. They knew they will be able to easily decamp with the gold on Sunday as the theft would only be reported the next day when the branch reopens."Sunil Bharadwaj, DCP Zone IV, said, "We have taken the fingerprints from the location and have formed four teams to crack the case. We are also ascertaining the role of insiders in the case as the thieves knew about the premises and the amount of gold kept in the locker."
