PM Modi will lay the foundation for Mumbai, with the project aiming to ease congestion on the suburban rail system. The key project includes the Virar and Dahanu (63 km), Panvel-Karjat (28 km) and Airoli-Kalwa (2km) routes.
In what is being seen as the state government’s poll pitch for the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off key rail infrastructure projects for Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra-Kurla Complex on Saturday.
The state government will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Railways for Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST)-Panvel and Bandra-Virar elevated corridor on a Public-Private Participation (PPP) model, and the Vasai-Diva-Panvel suburban corridor. PM Modi will lay the foundation for Mumbai, with the project aiming to ease congestion on the suburban rail system. The key project includes the Virar and Dahanu (63 km), Panvel-Karjat (28 km) and Airoli-Kalwa (2km) routes.
The Western and Central Railways will construct 22 foot overbridges at accident-prone spots on the suburban network. Under Phase III of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), 47 new rakes will be introduced by 2020, with Rs 11,000 crore being allocated for these projects.
