MUMBAI: The Centre will provide all possible support to the Worli-Bandra sealink and trans-harbour link, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said here on Thursday.

The Maharashtra Government should speed up Mumbai’s modernisation process and the Centre will extend all possible help, Singh said after laying foundation stone of the dedicated western freight corridor of Indian Railways.

"We have been taking a number of steps to ensure that Mumbai gets the best urban infrastructure India can afford," Singh said.

The Centre is providing the entire amount of Rs 1,200 crore for the Brihanmumbai Storm Water Drainage project, he said. Work on the Mumbai Metro has begun, Singh said, adding that the Centre would soon finalise the grant support needed from Delhi.

The Mumbai Urban Transport Project involving the Railways is going steadily ahead, the prime minister said.

The prime minister also flagged off two rakes of suburban trains that will provide 12 additional services between Churchgate-Borivali and Thane-Vashi.
