The huge amount of scrap which was generated during the renovation of the civic body’s departments at the head office, has been stored in a godown in Nehrunagar, Pimpri.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) tabled a proposal to auction scrap valued at Rs2.5 crore before its law committee for its approval on Tuesday. Once the law panel clears the proposal, it would be sent to the general body (GB) of the municipal corporation for ratification.
The huge amount of scrap which was generated during the renovation of the civic body’s departments at the head office, has been stored in a godown in Nehrunagar, Pimpri.
The scrap includes chairs, tables, cupboards, computers, tubes, UPS, connectors, batteries, telephones and old printers, besides other items discarded by the departments.
While the electronic department generated the highest amount of scrap at Rs1.71 crore, the engineering department generated scrap material worth Rs15.38 lakh, the IT department Rs5.43 lakh, health department Rs26.92 lakh, fire department Rs2.7 lakh, computer department Rs1.17 lakh, octroi department Rs25.25 lakh, encroachment department Rs1.21 lakh and garden department Rs60,000.
The civic administration decided to sell the scrap after the department heads informed the authorities that that it was of no use.
