The storm water system in Pimpri-Chinchwad collapsed on Saturday following the heavy rain. There was severe water logging at all main chowks of the industrial township.

Water-logging was reported at the LIG housing societies situated in Nigdi-Pradhikaran, Nigdi bus stand, Lokmanya Chowk, Bhel Chowk, Chinchwad station, Akurdi-Pradhikaran and parts of Pimpri. Several vehicles were stranded in the water.

Water-logging was also reported from the subways near Akurdi and Kasarwadi railway station, affecting vehicular traffic. Both the subways were closed for traffic. Traffic jams were reported at Chinchwad, Pimpri, Bhosari, Pune-Nashik highway and Mumbai-Pune highway.

Water also entered the Morya Gosavi temple in Chinchwadgaon. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire department officer, Uday Wankhede said, “Due to the heavy rain 15,000 cusecs water from Mulshi dam was released in the morning, while 4,100 cusecs water was released from the Pavana dam.”

The temporary pothole filling of bricks and stone crush done by the civic administration was all washed away. A number of potholes have come up on roads in Pimpri, Kalbhornagar, internal roads of Nigdi-Pradhikaran, Kasarwadi on the Mumbai-Pune highway, Dange Chowk in Thergaon, Shahunagar, Telco Road, Landewadi Chowk and Vitthalnagar in Bhosari, MIDC office in Chinchwad, Post Office Road in Chinchwadgaon and Rakshak Society Chowk in Pimple Nilakh.
