PIL demands frisking of lawyers in Bombay high court be stopped

A veteran lawyer has filed a PIL in the Bombay high court saying that police should not frisk the lawyers at the entrances to the Bombay high court.Advocate Manubhai Vashi, who has been practising since 1958, criticised the routine frisking as "humiliating" in his petition.Incidentally, security at the high court has now become tighter, as hearing of confirmation of death sentence awarded to Ajmal Kasab, lone Pakistani terrorist caught alive during 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is underway before a division bench.Vashi's PIL doesn't mention it, but says that frisking is unnecessary as lawyers are not likely to smuggle anything illegal inside the court.Earlier, Vashi said, only female lawyers were being frisked, but when he took up the issue with high court registrar, police started frisking male lawyers too.The PIL may come up for hearing tomorrow.
