Photocopy centres under police lens for identity theft

Photocopy centres are on the radar of the Cyber Crime Police after it found criminals misusing original identity cards to procure credit cards and SIM cards, using Photoshop to morph their photograph on the original card.
Recently, a Bangladeshi national was arrested by the Bandra police for allegedly misusing the identity card of Salim Bakar, 49, a businessman from Chapel road in Bandra.
A courier boy, while delivering a bank credit card, was approached by the accused outside the residence address of Baker, provided fraudulently to procure the credit card. The courier boy soon approached the real Salim Baker and informed him about the incident.
"The complainant found that the photo of the person was different but the address and name was the same. The accused had procured the identity card from a photocopying centre. He has been booked for forgery and under the Foreigners Act," said a Bandra police officer.
Sanjay Kadam, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bandra, said, "We uncovered the involvement of the photocopy centre after the owner morphed a picture of the victim with that of the accused, and gave him documents to procure the credit card of the bank.
