People complaint about defunct streetlights and poor patrolling at Manpada

Manpada: Despite paying taxes, residents from Ghodbunder Road allege that they get pathetic civic amenities in the area. Be it bad roads, a water crisis or traffic jams, they are struggling with these problems everyday and despite many complaints the problem has not been fixed. The latest issue which is bothering the residents is the issue of defunct streetlights on the stretch of Manpada Road.
Shrinivas Anand, a resident from the area informs,"Chain snatching and eve teasing is very frequent in the area. Still the authorities are not interested in solving the problem."
"I work with a software company and at times return home late by 1 or even 2 pm. When I am working late shifts, it becomes a trouble for me to reach home as streetlights in the area never work. I have a male friend who drops me home everyday," says Swapna Paul.
Working women as well as housewives residing near Manpada, allege that the area is not safe as the eve teasers are there during daytime. "In fact when we send our daughters for coaching and other classes we go to pick them up as they return late evening," said a worried parent.
Recently a chain snatching incident was reported in the area when the women was heading to her office. Though a police case has been registered, no preventive measures have been taken to stop the crime. When we create a hue and cry about the issue only then the streetlights work as well as beat marshalls are seen but after a day or so things are back to square.

Residents allege that commuting during night becomes dangerous as entire area is dark and anything can happen. The anti-social elements become active at night as there is no light in the area.
"The problem has also been reported to the corporators of the area but they are not bothered alleges residents. Now that residents have no other way left they have written a letter to the officials at Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to resolve the matter and see that the streetlight is fixed soon for the convenience of everyday commuters as well as others.
TMC PRO, Sandee Malvi informs, "Residents have informed about the problem and we are looking into the matter. I have also asked concerned official to fix the problem."
