The defence ministry last Thursday formally handed over the land required for the project to the civic body. The project has been delayed by about two years following problems faced by the PCMC in acquiring land from the defence ministry for the stretch between Aundh and Jagtap Dairy.

The civic body had paid Rs18.23 crore to the ministry, which had demanded Rs158 crore for land for all the BRTS routes.

Confirming the development, PCMC commissioner Ashish Sharma said the civic body would try to expedite work. The Aundh-Ravet BRTS will be the prime route for commuters travelling from Pune to the information technology (IT) park in Hinjewadi.

Completion of the project is expected to end traffic snarls at Sangvi Phata, Aundh Civil Hospital, Jagtap Dairy, Kalewadi Phata, Dange Chowk, Punavale and Ravet.
