Mumbai Metro fare has come down by half, travelling during morning non-peak hours will now cost Rs 5.

As per a statement released by Mumbai Metro spokesperson, from Thursday, commuters will be charged a flat fare of Rs5 between any two stations from 5.30am to 8am.

However, this promotional fare will be applicable only on weekdays for a week starting from Thursday, which means for five days. Mumbai Metro is introducing this offer on a trial basis.

To avail this special discount, a commuter will have to use his/her token within 30 minutes of its purchase or else the token will expire, the spokesperson added. The step, officials said, will encourage more people to commute by Metro.

At the moment, Mumbai Metro has kept promotional fare of Rs10 for a month starting from June 8. Thereafter, it may charge the finalised higher fare of Rs10-20-30-40, against which a petition has been filed in the Bombay high court by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

MMRDA wants Reliance Infrastructure-led Mumbai Metro One to levy Rs9-11-13 for travel on the 11.4km-long corridor.
