A federation of members of BMC's school management committees from various wards and public schools has presented a set of proposals like ID cards for schoolchildren, timely delivery of items provided to kids as well as implementation of a disaster plan to raise the quality of the civic institutions. Most of the schools do not have management committees, some of the schools that are managed by NGOs like Akansha have started to set up these bodies and have for the first time made the proposals to the civic body. The panel has said that ID cards will not only help to provide an identity for the nearly 4.5 lakh students, but draw them to attend classes regularlyWith reference to the 27 items provided to the children, the panel said that the arrangements (like measurements for uniforms and shoes) should be made well in advance so they are distributed in time."We have been instructing parents of the children in public schools on team work towards improving the quality of schools, through participation in school activities and dialogue with BMC authorities," said Rahul Suvarna, assistant manager, Akansha. He appealed particularly to parents of kids in schools that do not have committees to join the federation.
