MUMBAI: A suspected Pakistani militant was killed in an encounter and another arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from Antop Hill area of the city late on Monday night.

An AK-47 rifle and a sizeable quantity of RDX were also seized from them, police said.

One of the two Pakistani nationals Riyaz Nawabuddin was arrested late on Monday night by the ATS on a tip off, police said adding the team then went to the Central Government Scheme (CGS) colony in the Antop Hill area to apprehend his colleague who opened fire at them.

The ATS team fired in retaliation in which the second Pakistani suspect, identified as Mohammed Ali alias Abu Osama, was killed.

Riyaz Nawabuddin will be produced in court later in the day, police said. The encounter took place at around 4.30 am, Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS) Jaijeet Singh said.

Asked if the encounter was linked to the July 11 serial train blasts in Mumbai, which had killed around 200 and injured over 700 persons, Singh declined to comment.
