The Congress was routed in the preceding Lok Sabha polls, but the spirit of the party workers has not dampened. More than 900 aspirants are seeking the ticket for the upcoming Maharashtra state Assembly polls.

Satyajit Tambe, president of Maharashtra Youth Congress said that they started the 'Wake Up Maharashtra' campaign to reach around five crore youths in the next 45 days. "We want to reach as many as youths of the state. Congress will be the first political party that is going to prepare the manifesto dedicated to youths," Tambe said.

Tambe further said youths of the Congress party are excited this time. "Many senior Congress leaders had left the party and joined the BJP. That has created the space for young leaders whose opportunities were blocked and denied from the last several years,"he said.

MAGIC NUMBER

In Maharashtra, the strength of the state assembly is 288 and to form the government, any party needs the 145 seats

"In the list of 900 aspirants, most of them are local body elected members who have potential to get elected. This time, not only the Congress party but people of the state will get an opportunity to vote and elect the fresh and young faces. The most of redundant old faces have gone to BJP now. We are relieved," said Tambe.

Nana Patole, president of Campaign committee of the Congress party for the state polls said that the 900 Congress party workers are aspirants this time. "We are happy that those who are not committed to Congress ideology are leaving the party," Patole said.
