According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), around 6,277 Ganesh idols were immersed till 9 pm on Tuesday across the city. Out of 6,277 idols immersed in ponds, 5,591 were household idols and 320 were Sarvajanik idols.
In all, around 366 Ganesha idols were immersed in artificial ponds.
So far, around 1,42, 411 Ganesha idols have been immersed on the one and half and fifth day of the festival. Out of which, 11,334 idols dipped in the artificial ponds.
The officials from the Disaster Management Cell said that no untoward incidents is reported so far and the procession has been smooth and peaceful.
“We have beefed up the security at all the immersion points with majority of them being on beaches,”said a senior civic official.
Municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte took stock
of the security measures at the beaches and immersion points on Saturdy after a case of drowning was reported last Thursday in Goregaon.
