Although the department earns a revenue of Rs5,000 crore annually, around 10% of the total income is evaded by  importers in connivance with civic officials and octroi agents, who go to the extent of giving out fake payment receipts. 

An affidavit filed by municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar has stated that within a few months the entire system would be online. He said the new software has been developed under the guidance of experts from IIT, Bombay and using this e-portal octroi payments can be made directly by the importer to the corporation’s account.
