One person was killed and another was left critically injured after being stabbed by a youth at Saki Naka on Thursday night. The police are on the lookout for the accused who attacked the duo when they resisted his attempts to steal a mobile phone.

"The victims have been identified as Vikas Dinkar Isave (32) and Niraj Singh (23), residents of Saki Naka. Around 10:30 pm on Thursday, the duo were out for some work at Sundar Baug Lane when the suspect, identified as Kamran Siddiqui, believed to be in his 20s, tried to steal Singh's cellphone. When they resisted, Siddiqui stabbed them and fled from the spot," said VB Patil, senior police inspector of Ghatkopar police station.

According to the police, Singh succumbed to his injuries and his body was taken to KEM Hospital, while Isave was taken to Rajawadi Hospital were he is under treatment.

The police has launched a man-hunt to trace Siddiqui and they have booked him under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to commit murder) and 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code."Only after we capture Siddiqui can we confirm if phone theft was the sole motive or an enmity has led to the murder," said Patil.
