Now, right to pee on netas' agenda

Suddenly, women's health has become the most important point in the agenda of all the political parties. Keeping in mind the popularity gained by Right To Pee (RTP) campaign, political parties seem to be in a rush to attract women voters of urban areas and including this point in their manifesto too. 

Right to Pee, an initiative spearheaded by 33 NGOs across Mumbai, demands that more and more cleaner and safer toilets be built in the city for women, without charging a penny for their usage. 

Mumtaz Shaikh, executive president of Mahila Mandal Federation, an NGO that works for women’s rights, said, “I don’t think politicians are serious in doing anything about this demand. Since the past two and a half years, we have been trying to persuade the civic body to work on this issue.” 

“We have already started work on this subject and will construct new toilets across the state. Its has always been in the list of our priorities,” said, Keshav Upadhaya, spokeperson, BJP. 

“Ours is the first party to fight for women issues and this is always in our agenda,” said Rajya Sabha MP Hussain Dalwai (Congress). 

Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Nawab Malik said: “In our manifesto, we have always given priority to women empowerment, including health care and their various issues. This time too we have a separate chapter dedicated on women issues.”
