Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said that the state government was committed in setting up a welfare board for drivers of public and private transport vehicles on the lines of the one started for Mathadi workers.

Pawar, who held a review meeting on the proposed welfare board at Mantralaya, said that the departments of transport and labour would jointly work on the project to make it into a reality and that the government was committed to set up such a body. The meeting was attended by minister of state for transport Gulabrao Deokar and labour minister Hasan Mushrif.

“Drivers of public and private transport have to face many challenges and serve the society selflessly. It is important to look for their security and a welfare board for them would be a solution,” Pawar said.
