Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has demanded ban on Flipkart.
E-commerce major Flipkart prides itself on the tagline, 'Ab har wish hogi puri' (We will fulfil every wish). However, Flipkart had no inkling neither wished that its platform could have been used to order swords, guptis, daggers and knives. In the last two days alone, 34 weapons were delivered in Aurangabad, which was recently in news for communal strife that led to the death of two persons and left 50 injured.
The Aurangabad police has arrested six persons and launched an inquiry. The cops are investigating if the 'online weapons' were used during the recent clash. Police sources said that the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) has joined forces with the Aurangabad police for a parallel probe.
A Flipkart spokesperson told this newspaper: "We are supporting the Aurangabad police and providing them with all the information they need to solve the case."
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has demanded ban on Flipkart. "The situation in Aurangabad is returning to normal, and the police seize 28 sharp weapons ordered from Flipkart. Such open trade of weapons is illegal and a threat to the society. The government should ban such websites."
A senior officer, privy to the probe said, "On Tuesday (May 29) 28 weapons were delivered to various addresses. After a tip-off, the police searched Flipkart's local delivery depot and arrested six persons. The preliminary probe has revealed that these sharp weapons had come from Delhi, Rajasthan and Amritsar. Another six weapons were delivered on Wednesday." It is learnt that some weapons were delivered on April 24 and 25 too.
