Residents of Campa Cola Compound in Worli are leaving no stone unturned to save their homes. While the Supreme Court (SC) has recently asked lawyers of the civic body and residents to find a middle way to resolve the issue, the occupants are planning to express their sentiments through the ballot box. The residents are planning to vote in the bulk for the political outfit which will give them a concrete plan to save their homes. Until now, politicos, cutting across party lines, have assured residents their support. However, none of them has discussed detailed plan to save their homes.
"Majority of the residents have a sentiment that they will vote for a party, which gives them a concrete plan to save their homes. All parties have made promises, but it is the action which will matter to us even as the deadline to vacate our homes nears," a resident said.
Around 90 homes are facing demolition for FSI violations. The occupants of these flats will have to vacate their homes by May this year, according to a SC order in this regard. "In addition to occupants of illegal flats, residents of legal flats are also in our support. With their support, we should be able to push forward our demand," the resident said and added between 400 and 500 voters stay across seven buildings in the compound. The city is set to go for polls on April 24.
Meanwhile, the residents reiterated they are keeping their fingers crossed as the BMC considers their plan to resolve the issue. "We are also hopeful if the state government can help us in this regard staying within norms," the resident added.
