Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetization decision, the Bombay High Court has issued a circular to lower courts asking them to accept cash surety of accused who are granted bail either through cheques, demand drafts or electronic money transfer.
The High Court's Registrar General, Mangesh Patil, confirmed news of the circular issued by the registry.
According to the circular, if the accused submits a cheque in lieu of cash surety, then his release formalities should be processed only after the cheque is honoured.
The circular was issued after some instances where accused who were granted bail could not produce cash surety.
