The union members claimed that a meeting was scheduled on Thursday with the representatives of both Uber and Ola but their representatives were not available.
Even after 11 days, the strike by Uber and Ola drivers doesn't seem to end with unions supporting the drivers citing that their strike will continue until they were given in writing the promises made by the two companies to end the strike.
The union members claimed that a meeting was scheduled on Thursday with the representatives of both Uber and Ola but their representatives were not available.
Meanwhile, Ola, on Thursday, sent messages to drivers offering them incentives that could motivate drivers to hit the road. However, not many drivers were seen on the roads on Thursday. There are more than 50,000 cabs in the city having tourist permit.
Govind Mohite, union leader of Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sang (MRRKS) supporting the strike said, "We went to meet representatives from both Uber and Ola on Thursday, but they were not available. We demand everything in writing that is being promised to ensure the earnings of drivers will be increased. We have received somewhat in writing but that is not enough."
Mohite added, "We are also demanding the state government to intervene considering Diwali is coming and to solve the deadlock. We have also decided to continue with our strike until the demands are met and an agreement is submitted to us in writing. Our protest will intensify if the state government does not intervene at this moment."
Earlier last week, the state government had offered Uber and Ola drivers to be accommodated as cool cabs that are AC cabs registered with the state transport departments.
Further, Uber and Ola drivers have been demanding more per-kilometre rate citing rising diesel prices and are also demanding to be included in the city's taxi scheme. However, the state government has said that it cannot intervene here considering it is between the driver and the private company.
However, Uber did not issue any statement over the ongoing strike on Thursday. However, earlier in a statement the company had said that it is engaging with all relevant stakeholders with a view to restore services. While Ola did not issue any statement.
