The Sambhaji Brigade said on Wednesday it was not taking credit for removal of the statue of Dadoji Konddev from Lal Mahal because 84 organisations and former high court judge, BJ Kolse-Patil, had also demanded its removal.
They claimed that the organisation was not against Brahmins or any personalities from the Brahmin community, who fought with Chhatrapati Shivaji. Sambhaji Brigade leaders Shantaram Kunjir, Vikas Pasalkar and Shreemant Kokate briefed media persons and condemned the Bharatiya Janta Party and Shiv Sena for damaging public property.
Kunjir said a wrong message is being sent that removing the statue of Konddev amounts to war between Maratha and Brahmin communities.
“The Sambhaji Brigade has only objected to Konddev’s glorification,’’ he said.
