NMMC notices to residents under CAG directives

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (NMMC) issuance of notices to housing societies that do not have Occupation Certificates (OC) is not politically motivated, claimed independent corporator MK Madhvi. "The civic civic body's action is based on the remarks of comptroller of auditor general (CAG) which found irregularities and it has highlighted this in its report," said Madhvi.
Madhvi came forward to clarify the issue after opposition claimed that the civic body is being misused for political mileages. "The civic body is just correcting mistakes highlighted in the CAG's report and it has nothing to do with either congress or NCP," said Madhvi.

Recently, the civic body sent notices to housing societies without OCs, of which majority are mathadi workers (head loaders). And, the opposition suspects that the ruling party wants to churn out votes in the upcoming parliamentary election by emerging as the saviour for the affected mathadi workers.

"The notices which were sent were purely administrative orders and the nationalist congress party (NCP) has got nothing to do with it," said another NCP corporator adding, "All the allegations made by the opposition are false and baseless."

The opposition claimed that the corporation's initiative, which is being carried across the satellite city, is creating a flutter among residents. The timing of the drive, ahead of the elections is being viewed with suspicion by certain quarters.

Taking up the issue, Navi Mumbai Shiv Sena has accused that the civic administration is hand-in-gloves with the ruling party and serving notices to residents during the election code of conduct period asking to present OCs.

Madhvi added, "Instead of making allegations they should meet the civic chief. He will give more clarification on the subject and there is no violation of code of conduct."
On several occasions, NCP has raised common public issues and residents have benefited from it. "With the effort of NCP corporator Vinit Palkar, water being supplied to construction sites was charged as per residential rate instead of commercial rate in 2013," said another NCP corporator.
